Aster Brio Dance Company is the resident company of Principle Dance Studio. Members are selected from the studio’s Pathway Program. The name of the company comes from “Aster”, as in the shape of a star, and “Brio”, meaning with liveliness and vivacity.

The company has a contemporary style and performs ballet, jazz, and modern dance pieces. On stage, these artists portray the spirit and energy of dance from within themselves. In the studio, these dancers extend warmth, enthusiasm, and respect while supporting one another.

Aster Brio dancers set an example with the way they dress for class, punctuality, excellent attendance, positive attitude & focus, and technical strength. They also have a passion for the artistry of dance and an open attitude toward new ideas. Dancers who are ready for a mature commitment to this company will receive mentorship from professionals and a positive outlet for performance. Within this company, young dancers are challenged to push beyond comfortable boundaries, express new ideas, and find themselves within the constraints of technique. Practical skills learned include maintaining a schedule, communicating needs, reliability, coming to rehearsals and performances prepared, as well as problem solving within a group.

Required Technique Classes

All Aster Brio Company dancers will be members of Principle Dance’s Pathway Program. During the Fall Semester, they must take at least 2 ballet classes as well as modern and/or jazz once a week.

Rehearsals

Company rehearsals will take place at Principle Dance on Saturdays from 1:00-3:30 p.m. Advance notice will be given in regard to exact dates and times.

Additional Rehearsals

Additional or extended rehearsals may be scheduled in preparation for performances. Advanced notice of date, time, and location will be given. Students who do not participate in the additional rehearsals for a given performance will not be allowed to perform in that particular concert. If a dancer is unable to attend the rehearsal and has been excused by the director, no attendance penalties that might result in probation will be given.

Aster Brio Dance Company will be on hiatus during the Fall of 2011. The company will resume in the Fall of 2012.
